Driving Licence Services
Parivahan Sewa portal provides various services related to driving license which can be accessed through Sarathi Transport Dashboard of your state.
Some of the major services on this portal include Driving license application, driving license renewal, updating driving license, issuing duplicate driving license, booking appointment for driving test and downloading or printing driving license.
License Types in India
Driving licence in India is mainly classified into two types:
🎯 This is a temporary license, which is given to new drivers for practice. It is valid for six months and can be extended for an additional six months if required.
✅ This is a permanent license. You can apply for a permanent license 30 days after the learner's license and within 6 months. Which gives you full permission to drive independently.
Eligibility Criteria
🔍 The following are the eligibility criteria to obtain a driving license (DL) in India:
- 🎂 Age Requirement: For non-geared motorcycles - scooty/moped (up to 50CC) you must be at least 16 years of age. For geared motorcycles or cars your minimum age is 18 years and for commercial license applicants must be at least 20 years of age.
- 🏥 Medical Fitness: Must satisfy physical and mental fitness standards prescribed by the Motor Vehicles Act such as eye test (vision test), blood pressure/sugar level, physical disability (if any).
- 🚦 Knowledge of Traffic Rules: You must have a basic understanding of all the traffic signs, laws and traffic rules.

New Driving License Application Process
Visit Official Website
To apply for Driving Licence online, visit the official website of Parivahan Sewa – parivahan.gov.in. On the home page under the "Online Services" section, select "Driving License Related Services".

Select Your State
Choose your state from the dropdown menu. After selection, you'll see two main options:
- Apply for Learner Licence: For first-time applicants
- Apply for Driving Licence: For permanent license after having Learner's Licence
Apply for Learner's License
If you're applying for the first time, click on "Apply for Learner Licence". A new page will open showing the step-by-step process. Follow all prompts by clicking "Continue".
Fill the Application Form
Carefully enter all required information in the application form:
- Full name (as per official documents)
- Complete address
- Date of birth
- Vehicle type (motorcycle/car/HMV)
- Other personal details
Upload Required Documents
Upload scanned copies of the following documents in specified format and size:
- Aadhaar Card / PAN Card
- Address proof (Electricity bill, Passport)
- Passport size photograph
- Signature scan
- Age proof (10th mark sheet, birth certificate)
Book Test Slot
After completing the application, select a convenient date and time slot for the driving test through the Appointment section.
Pay Fees Online
Make the payment using available online payment methods. Download or print the payment receipt for future reference.
Receive Driving License
After passing the test, your DL will be sent to your address within 2-3 weeks. Alternatively, you can collect it from your RTO with original documents and payment receipt.
Important Notes
- Learner's License is typically issued on the same day of application
- You can start learning to drive immediately after receiving Learner's License
- Permanent Driving License requires successful completion of driving test
- Keep all original documents ready for verification at RTO

Provide the following information:
- Application number
- Date of birth
- Captcha code as displayed
View Status
Click submit to view the current status of your driving license application. The same process can be used to check renewal status.
Download Driving License
Access Download Portal
Visit parivahan.gov.in and select "Driving License Related Services" under "Online Services". Choose your state from the dropdown.
Download DL Portal
Select Print Option
For Permanent DL: Click on "Print Driving License" in the Driving License menu.
For Learner's License: Select "Print Learner's License (Form-3)" under the Learner's License menu.
Enter Required Information
Provide the following details:
- DL application number
- Date of birth
- Mobile number (for Learner's License)
Download or Print
Click "Submit" and then select "DL Print" option to download your driving license in PDF format. You can then print it if needed.

Access Renewal Portal
Visit Sarathi Parivahan portal and select "Driving License Related Services". Choose your state and navigate to the renewal section.

Enter DL Details
Provide your driving license number, date of birth, and captcha code. Click "Get DL Details" to proceed.
Upload Required Documents
Upload the following documents in specified format:
- Passport size photograph
- Form-9 (Renewal Application Form)
- Old Driving License (copy)
- Address proof
- Age Certificate
- Medical Certificate (Form-1A) - Mandatory for applicants 40+ years
Pay Renewal Fees
Complete the payment using online payment methods and download the receipt.
Receive New DL
The renewed DL will be sent to your address within 5-7 days via post. You can also access it through DigiLocker.
Renewal Guidelines
- Apply for renewal up to one month before expiry
- If renewal delayed beyond 5 years, follow new license application process
- Renewal within 30 days of expiry is effective from original date
- Late applications attract additional fee of ₹30

Visit Parivahan Sewa website and navigate to "Driving License Related Services". Select your state.

Click on "Apply for Duplicate Driving Licence" from the service menu.
Enter DL Information
Provide your driving license number, date of birth, and captcha. Click "Get DL Details".
Provide Additional Details
Enter your mobile number, email ID, current address, and PIN code. Select "Issue of Duplicate DL" or "Replacement of DL" and proceed.
Upload Required Documents
Upload the following documents:
- FIR copy (if DL was stolen)
- Age Certificate
- Address proof
- Passport size photograph
- Digital signature
- Medical Certificate (Form-1A) - For applicants 40+ years
Book RTO Slot
Select date and time slot through appointment section. Visit RTO with all original documents.
Pay Fees and Receive DL
Complete online payment and download receipt. After verification, duplicate DL will be sent to your address or available on DigiLocker.

Access the official E-Challan website at https://echallan.parivahan.gov.in/. Click on "Pay Online" from the menu section.

- 14-digit Challan Number
- Vehicle Registration Number
- Driving Licence Number
Enter the captcha code and click "Get Detail".
Mobile Verification
Complete mobile number verification using OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
View Challan Details
After verification, view all pending challans with details including:
- Invoice date
- Type of violation
- Penalty amount
- Payment status
Make Payment
Click "Proceed With Net-Payment" and select your preferred payment method to complete the transaction.
Download Receipt
After successful payment, download the receipt by clicking "Print Receipt" for your records.
